FAQ

Are rankings and finals separate by gender?

Yes. Rankings and finals are held separately by gender.

Who can enter Novice (Adults)?

The novice category is for competitors who have not been to any final round in a promotional competition, including bouldering competition

Novice (Adults) has no age limit. Younger climbers may also enter, provided they meet the Novice eligibility requirements.

If you are unsure whether a previous competition counts as a promotional competition, email events@bffclimb.com with the event name, category and result before registering.

Does Novice (Adults) have finals or a Lead option?

Novice (Adults) is Top Rope only. The top 8 in each gender category advance to the Top Rope final. Only the top 3 in each gender category receive medals.

How is a climber's age category decided?

Youth categories are decided by birth year:

  • Youth F: 7–8 years old · Born 2018–2019
  • Youth E: 9–10 years old · Born 2016–2017
  • Youth D: 11–12 years old · Born 2014–2015
  • Youth C: 13–14 years old · Born 2012–2013

Climbers aged 5 or 6: They may also be accepted into Youth F, but the routes are designed with climbers up to age 8 and their height and reach in mind.

Can a younger climber enter an older age category for a greater challenge?

Yes. Climbers may choose to move up to an older youth age category for a greater challenge. This applies to both Top Rope and Lead. Routes are designed for the older age group, with their height, reach and ability in mind.

Can a climber enter both September and November?

Yes. September and November are separate competition weekends. Each requires a separate registration, and you may choose a different category or format for each, provided you meet the eligibility requirements.

Can a climber enter two categories or formats on the same weekend?

No. Each climber may enter only ONE category and ONE format per competition weekend.

You cannot enter two categories, or compete in both Top Rope and Lead, on the same weekend. If you move up to an older category, it replaces your usual category; it is not an additional entry.

Does Lead require a certificate?

No formal certification is required, but the competitor must be able to lead climb and clip confidently and safely without assistance.

Can I withdraw or get a refund?

No. Registration fees are strictly non-refundable and withdrawals are not available.
